Even if the Rs appealed to all of the white people in this country, the trends are against them. White people will be a minority in this country within a few decades. By that time, the added decades of R scapegoating of minorities will exact an even deeper price from the Rs. They're yesterday's news. We need two parties in this country. Maybe the best thing would be for the Ds to become the centrist party (which they are in everything but their PR) and for the progressives to form a truly left-wing party in this country. The Ds could then occupy the territory the Rs held and the liberals could take the place of the Ds.

Then you're sitting pretty, you have nothing to worry about, as long as you don't utter any hate speech. Oops! Sorry, that's still Canada. > > They're yesterday's news. But the Republicans need to change something, stand *for* something other than obstructionism. Don't keep reminding the people that they voted against whatever we get. The Democrats have already moved further right than, say Nixon, with his health care policy, Bush's foreign wars, and with much lower taxes than Reagan had - the same lack of regard to balancing the budget. -- "In no part of the constitution is more wisdom to be found, than in the clause which confides the question of war or peace to the legislature, and not to the executive department." - James Madison |
