From: Ezran on 6 May 2007 09:31 Had a good round on Friday, shot 99. I don't break 100 all that much so it was pretty satisfying. Anyways I realised that having a chipper would enhance my game. This chipper would be identical to a conventional putter, except it would be somewhat lofted, say about the same loft as a 4 iron. Notice that I said identical to a putter, therefore it would also have a flat area in its grip. I seem to recall only a putter is allowed to have a flat area in its grip. Is this true? Assuming it is, is it still against the rules to have a lofted putter, or two putters in one bag? I'd carry one normal putter and one lofted putter (the chipper). Appreciate any insights, thanks.

Go read rule 4-1/3 for the rules about chippers: usga.org.

I think there may also be a rule about the loft of a putter, so that if you bend a putter to a certain loft it is no longer a putter.

If you want 14 putters, that's ok but it will elimninate all your other clubs. :>) Something you might consider is using a hybrid for chipping. Grip down and stroke it just like your putter. Otto |
