From: Frank on 12 Jul 2007 23:41 As a somewhat new golfer I have a question regarding golf gloves. I never wear a glove as it makes me feel uncomfortable. My friends claim that my game suffers because of the lack there of. I feel the glove has very little to do with my mediocre play. How do you all feel about the merit of gloves? Frank

If the weather is dry enough and not too hot, I will play without one. Sometimes, I just don't happen to have a glove that's in good enough shape. As long as my grip isn't slipping due to perspiration, I don't really notice a difference. One minor thing about using a glove is that I try to use it as a way to start my pre-shot routine. Again, because I sweat a lot, I take off the glove between shots, so when I get to my ball, I make putting it back on a part of the routine that finishes with playing the stroke. -- Alan Baker Vancouver, British Columbia "If you raise the ceiling four feet, move the fireplace from that wall to that wall, you'll still only get the full stereophonic effect if you sit in the bottom of that cupboard."

I use it because of perspiration problems too. But I understand the reason people like the ritual of removing the glove for putting and putting it back on at the tee. Ritual can help set our mind for the task at hand.

Correct grip pressure is very important to a correct golf swing. The right amount is usually much less than you think. I find that when I don't wear a glove, I grip the club tighter to keep it from slipping around. Wearing a glove allows me to lighten my grip pressure and keep the club from slipping. That is the ONLY reason I wear one.
