Where's Teddy Roosevelt when you really need him? :-)

The corporatist state we live in (which will be the downfall of
America, mark my words) will never allow for true competition again.
It's all about cozying up to big corporations. Screw the mom and pops.

I was once the same way. Couldn't figure out why anyone over the age
of 17 would ever text. But I get it now. If I have something to tell
you, but it's not a big enough deal to phone you or send you an email,
I'll just tap out a quick line of info, and bang, it's in your phone.
Simple.

If I have something that's not a big enough deal to phone you, or
email you about, it damned sure isn't big enough to text to you.
Simpler. :-)

Yes, funny how that always seems to work, isn't it? I'd better stop, or
we'll have Immoderate, Bertie, and Mikey foaming at the mouth :-)

Fair enough - I do use text for a lot of quick back and forth with the
family, but not while I am driving!

Texting is about the only way I can communicate with my kids.

----------------------------------------------------------

I hear ya. I'm not sure my kids know how to answer the phone.

Read a funny story about Portland Trailblazer coach, Nate McMillan, who is
admittedly old school. He stated he resisted texting until he realized it
was the only way to communicate with his players.

I looked into it and may consider it. One neat feature is that if you elect
the tethering feature, you add 2 gigs to the existing data plan. That's a
winner for my wife, who has the limited plan. Another feature is that there
is no wire. The phone acts like a wireless wifi router. In fact, you can
connect two laptops to one phone. Pretty cool, when you consider the
alternative of patiently waiting for the wife to get off the laptop.
