Yeah. I take carts when I have two days in a row, but still can see
the fatigue in my game.

Adds a bit to the entire "walking is integral to the game" position of
the USGA. While you don't have to be a top-conditioned athlete, there
is some degree of wear and tear to walking 18 holes that impacts you
physically and mentally. Really makes you appreciate the good old days
when tournaments involved 36 holes in a day.

It is odd how we all age differently, isn't it?

I find it hard to walk 18 these days (I'm 66) because of lower back and
feet problems. But I've got friends that I play with that are still
walking 18 or more with no problems at well past 70.

And I've noticed this year as the temps keep rising, that playing the
high/low scores that I'm seeing seems to be as much fatigue from the
high heat and humidity as anything else.

Oh well, I guess all things are not golden in our 'golden years'... :)

There's no reasoning to it. I've been unable to walk 18 for 6 years
now (I'm 74 this month) and one in our group is 81 that just started
taking a cart on the back nine...if its over 75 degrees. He also
hasn't had three shoulder operations, one knee operation, one hip
replacement, or carotid surgery either. Plus he still has all of his
hair. There are 40 year olds at my club who are already having to
cart it.

We'll have our first 100 degree day today, been in the 90s for the
past week. That damned sure adds to the fatigue.

Except having reached them, which also has benefits.

I laugh at the fools who make light of us old guys when you know they
hope to stay around to play golf as long as we have. Then they'll
understand the adage that " age is just a number".
