So you're saying that Larry Bud's absolute max is only equal to what a
normal golfer can do swinging at 70%?

Larry Bud doesn't have a 5 handicap because he's a short hitter. One
of the reasons he has a 5 handicap is he hits it a lot further than a
"normal" golfer.

one must swing at 80% of their potential to effect a decent result.
otherwise they would be too petered for the next shot.

How about...

Picture you have a pocket knife, apple, etc...at the end of the string
which you have to "swing" back and through whilst keeping the string
taut.....
