"Hitting it easy" is for pansies who can't figure out how to swing the club.
You're just giving yourself a better chance of making contact on the center
of the club face while not being out of balance, that's all. Learn how to
do that while actually generating some clubhead speed, and then you've got
it.

Some appear to swing harder than others. Palmer appeared to swing
harder than Nicklaus, for instance.
