How many times have we all been told to "swing easy"..... "don't try to
kill the ball"..."let the club do the work"...

Often each of us ( well, a lot of us!!!!) just ignore that valuable and
clear advice. We try to drive the ball WAY down the fairway. Sometimes we
get the perfect shot, BUT..... far more often, we put the shot right or
left..and sometimes we even top the ball.... trying to kill it!

Been there, done that..... ( and I will probably do it again! )...

Today I played a local course with a buddy of mine. He had a bad day and I
had a slightly better one...but..on 16th hole I saw the light. I swung
easy; that action produced a nice little draw down the middle of the
fairway... Not as long as I can hit it when I crush it..but...golly, right
in the middle of the fairway! What a strange place to take my second shot
from?????? No trees; no fairway border bushes; ....just soft, smooth and
easy to hit off of grass. .......................Maybe I ought do this
more often...???....

good advice, however some of the yahoos' elevator in this ng doesn't go
all the way to the top. Any effort to enhance their playing ability is a
lost cause.

Ever operate a whip? It takes timing more than power, right?

<SNIP>

Best single swing thought I've ever received came many years ago from an
uncle:

"40 / 60"

Feel as if you are going back at 40% velocity and swinging at 60% velocity.

Of course, to get in my head, he used to jokingly turn it around on the
first tee by saying:

"Remember: 60 / 40 ..."

Good for you.

I do it often enough in practice, I don't need to think about it when I
actually play.
