But I doubt the IRS cares about payments to someone who works one half-day per week.

I'm sorry but you're wrong. I worked as an independent contractor for over 25 years and know the law. See IRS form 1099. Perhaps you could enlighten us with this pamphlet.

Of course, you're probably not the only person she works for.
