Reminds me of a very famous man who said that slow play was a sin, an example of a selfish, un-Christian behaviour towards other people. This was Mr. Thatcher, Margareth´s husband. F

I never golf as a single on weekends, or when it is busy, for example, but late afternoons, when there aren';t too many people out there the Tex types who won't let people play through despite the fact the course is wide open as pretty selfish, IMHO. I can also report that I am not the only one who doesn't care for the long drawn out gruesome weekend rounds. I grew up and up till about the mid 1990's, regular men's groups rounds ararely took more than 3 hours. I could get there for the 8AM tee time and be home at noon. Today, I get there for the 8AM tee time and am home at 2:30PM, which more or less kills the day. For whatever reason, golf has become much slower than in the past, so I no longer play in these men's groups...but still I can get a 4some of friends together a dozen or so times a year, go to a similar number of newsgroup outings, and then there are regular outings like the local citywide seniors groups and a few tournaments, but that's it for me for that sort of thing. If I want to golf regularly, I have to do the late afternoon thing, and about 1/2 the time at that I wind up as a single. Nice thing about the late afternoon thing is that I have met a lot of really great guys who are really avid golfers like me...and the men's groups are really dying off fast. Most of them are lucky to get 3 5somes out anymore whereas in the mid 1990's, they would shotgun 2 groups off every teebox on the course at 8AM.

That's a shame, but the opposite happens around here. Tuesdays through Thursdays we have noon play of 8 to 14 groups that, and every Friday (Men's day) tournament is loaded with players. Then there are the monthly Men's Golf Association tournaments which are shot gunned. bk
