A guy who shoots in the low/mid 70s, doesn't take practice swings, with long legs and a quick walking pace isn't going to be on the course very long. -- jvdp http://www.rsgcincinnati.com

In Europe, at least where Ive been around, its a rule of etiqette that the solitary player has no right whatsoever. Let him through if you feel like it - or dont. But four guys are obliged to let a twosome through, at least if there is an open hole in front of you. The same applies if your foursome is slow and there is a group waiting. I for one hate the feeling when a lonesome, unhappy fellow stands there staring at me when Im focusing on a 6-footer - so I let him through. F Singles should not have rights and they should not pressure the group ahead of them. Take some practice putts.

If a single is coming up fast, there is no polite reason to not let them play through or join up, imo.

If they have a lot of singles, then such a rule would cost them some members. In the US, club no longer make matches; they just collect green fees. You are expected to recuit your own golf partners, and I can do this maybe once or twice a month; or play in some sort of regular group, which I pass on because it is too slow and I am tired of enabling the posers. The USGA rules require consideration for everyone, including singles. If the course is packed, playing as a single is dumb, but when the course is wide open, there is no excuse, and people who don't let *ANY* faster group play through are jerks, most especially the jerks who think their 5 buck nassuau is so important compared with the time of all the people they hold up on the course. People have better things to do than watch a bunch of jerks roll the ball and pick up putts on their way to a 5+ hour round of "71". |
