It is common courtesy to allow four people to enjoy a reasonable pace
without interruption. Golf is not designed to be a solo sport.

Like Rob, I play a fair amount as a single, generally during the week,
late mornings or early afternoon on courses that are not very busy. I
enjoy playing as a single but will hook up at the first if the club
wants or as the pace of play determines. The one condition that I will
Always pass on is joining up with a regular threesome. I find this very
uncomfortable for all parties.

As to your first comment, I agree that it is a courtesy, but courtesy
extends in both directions. Allowing a single to pass through, to an
open or half open hole will cost the four about 3-4 minutes, ONCE. If
that is a problem for them then they don't understand some elemental
human relations matters.

Regarding golf not being designed to be a solo sport is quite wrong
headed in my opinion. The essence of golf is you the player with your
skills, physical and mental, against the course. The competitive aspect
is an accretion and in my opinion, stems from a desire to add mental
pressure to the players. This is not a value judgment. I've played
some great rounds with scratch golfers, single digits and 35
handicappers. We are all out enjoying the effort to do our best against
our personal best, or maybe just staying on game. No wagers, no
bragging rights, just knowing that you hit a few great shots.

My two cents,

Joe

A reasonable sentiment, but one post too late. It is properly directed
at Tex, who took the first shot in this thread. Like anyone else, I
reserve the right to fire back when fired upon!

Do you even read what you post? You fire at all people at all times.
You just hate it when it's fired back at you, you feel like you are
being "picked on".
Welcome to the real world Francis.

Tex
p.s. you aren't supposed to care what I post anyway...

What the hell does this even mean?!?!

Focus on yourself. And if you aren't man enough to assert yourself
and just play through, you deserve to watch every agonizing roll, foot
wedge, "two" putt and gimme they play. If I play as a single, and a
group like that is dicking around, providing there are open holes
ahead, I am playing through. Period.
