Hollywood must appeal to the lowest common denominator to make money and they have become masterful at it as the spoof movie trailer suggests. I don't really care one way or the other because as you allude, they are not getting bailouts; they do earn what they make in a free market. More succinctly, If I don't care for what they produce (and I don't care for 99% of it), I don't have to buy it. Contrast that with many other institutions which I must fund whether I approve or not.
