What Obama did was not debating. Obama was asked a question, Obama's response was whatever he wanted to talk about. The questioner did not get the oppourtunity to ask a follow-up question. Hell, even a press conference has more in commone with a debate than Obama not directly responding to the questions asked by the Republicans.
