Dino, it's hard to believe that you don't see a problem with health care
costs. Recent examples from my insurance billings
Walk into my cardiologist's office - $250
Echocardiogram (30 minutes) - $2,500
Complete blood screen (automated) - $2.122
. . . and the beat goes on.

Did my insurance pay that much? Of course not. Had I been paying out
of my own pocket, however, it would have been a different story.

Health care costs are indeed a major problem - my drug costs are
relatively minor in comparison. And we often do nt have choices. The
hospital I use is the only one within 90 miles capable of treating me.
It isn't a question of higher or lower quality care, it's a question of
availability and accessability.

We do have some control. As my health improved after my triple bypass I
started balking at the frequency of my checkup appoinments and have
managed over time to stretch them out and eliminate two appointments per
year. I also have kidney problems and I told my nephrologist, "I will
agree to see you once every six months and to one blood draw before."
She didn't like it but that's the way it has been.
