Hi folks,

I've resubscribed as I'm done with surgery and about ready to hit the
links again, plus there's some exciting golf taking place around the
world right now and I figured there'd be lots of discussion about it on
RSG. Having said that, I can't find any golf posts, and instead see a
lot of ignorant bleating on various political topics. The polidiocy
which has spoiled many forums hasn't spread to this extent to RSG and
actually ruined the place, has it? That would be a terrible shame.

It goes white.

But that is besides the point. RSG has always been a free fire zone
for all types of posters and spammers. You will find those who still
post about golf. Though they are few and far between. I played this
past week at the local muni in 95+ heat and 80%+ humidity. Nuts? Sure,
but I did have the course pretty much to myself. It allowed me to
skull, chilli-dip, slice, duck hook, hit and loose the ball and even
hit a few straight. Frustrating? Sure. But, I wasn't holding any one
up nor suffering the bad whit of fellow players. Sweated like a horse
after a hard won race. But still had loads of fun at the same time.

So, Antonio. Hope you keep playing and post the fun you get to have
now you are done with what ever surgery you had done.

I know exactly what you mean. Having a sparsely-populated course behind
me is one of the reasons I enjoy playing very early in the morning and
quite late in the day. I prefer late, though, I think... as the dew can
make finding the ball difficult when the sun is high in the sky.

It is a terrible shame. Unlike what others have said (RSG has always
been like this), that is not so.

Back at the end of the 1990s and during the early 2000s, RSG was a
beautiful place on the web. Oh, there were a few spammers, and the
meowers would take a shot every once in a while, but mostly it was about
golf.

Remember the big RSG events, the invites (where everyone was invited)?
Remember RSG-Atlanta (both I and II)? Remember when there were RSG
events all over the place (Atlanta, Northwest, Ohio, Pittsburg, Hershey,
Wisconsin, Cincy)? Remember RSG-Ohio, what some might consider the
premier event?

Most of those events are still going, they've just evolved away from RSG.

Remember the swing debates (the Golfing Machine!), the equipment
threads, the short game and mental game and course review threads?
Alas, no more.

Most who want to talk about golf have left and found other venues. I'm
on a couple mailing lists with former RSG'ers, who had grown tired of
the drama and self-centeredness which defined most of RSG.

I pop in from time to time to chronicle the decline of RSG; it
fascinates me, that this unregulated forum has degenerated into shouting
matches, during which NOBODY'S mind is changed. And yet the shouting
continues.

(What's that old definition of mental illness? Doing the same thing
over and over, yet expecting a different outcome?)

Today, if you want golf talk, you need to find a moderated forum like
the Golf Channel, or some such. You're not going to find it here.

Congrats on being past the surgery, BTW. Take it easy, do what the
doctors tell you to do, and enjoy the recovery.
